So I downloaded my copy of LV 8.6 yesturday. Installing it was taking forever and after and hour and a half I decided to just go home and just let it run. I came in this morning and there was a message saying that the LV8.5 installation failed because of an invalid drive J: Drive J is my flash drive I use for transporting data around the lab it is attached to my company ID badge lanyard so I don't lose it. I had removed it when I left last night. What a drag having to start over again. I was hoping to come in this morning and start playing... Message Edited by RTSLVU on 08-13-2008 09:23 AM

Oops my bad, I was installing LV 8.6, but typed 8.5. I have it installed, I just made sure there were no flash drives inserted or removed during the (2 hour long) installation process. It just makes me wonder why the LV8.6 installation failed when I removed a removable drive that was not receiving any of the installation.

Just for completeness, could you also tell us your OS? (Mac, linux, Vista, XP, ....). It it possible that some other driver letters changed when you removed the flash drive? Is it possible that the temporary directory was located on J?When it unpacked the installation files, what was the target folder you selected? Did you leave it at the default?

Did you leave it at the default? Yes, I selected the defaults C:\national insturments downloads\Lab View\8.6 is where everything was extracted to.

I think you have to uncheck the "install device driver" option when you install LabVIEW 8.6. You don't have a driver DVD in your cdrom drive.
