Dear Ed,
Thanks a lot. It works fine.
[Edit: Just curious. What are all versions of LabView you are having? (I thought somebody will update to 6.x then to 7.x and then to 8.x.) ]

I have a virtual PC running an image with LV 8.0 installed. After various tests, it seems to be able to open files from way back to LV5. This may be because the PC that the virtual disk image was taken from had LV8 installed over 7, which was previously installed over 6. So all the previous libraries and support files were still on the disk. I open LV5 files in the virtual session, which automatically converts them to 8.0, then save the changes. Then open them in LV 8.5 on my development PC and save the changes again.

No problem Although I would be interested to know if it is because the machine has so many previous version of LabVIEW installed that it knows how to read and convert the files, or if it is because 8.0 is just magic.

8.0 is magic :smileyhappy:

LV 8.5 is the first version not to open 5.0 files.   8.2 and all previous versions can open 5.0 files.  Even if it is the only version installed on the PC.  It has nothing to do with having multiple versions installed.

Heh heh, thanks Ravens. Do we have a thread of quotes somewhere? "8.0 is magic" :-p
